DCSO accepts in-person public-record requests through the Sheriff's Office in the Dixie County Courthouse at 214 NE Highway 351, Suite L, Cross City, FL 32628. The Records Division says it will research responsive material and provide records in a timely manner. It also warns that a matter under investigation will not be returned and notice will be sent by mail.
A useful request names the person, known aliases, date of birth or booking number, and approximate booking date. Ask for the booking/release sheet, release date and time, release method or receiving agency, and any releasable transfer record. If the legal cause matters, request the court order by case number from the clerk as a separate record.
Keep the jail event and legal event distinct in the response. The DCSO sheet can establish when physical custody ended, while the filed order can explain why. If the two times differ, preserve both instead of forcing them into one timestamp. That difference often reflects normal processing rather than an error.
Florida law does not impose one fixed response deadline. A request also need not always be written, though written wording fixes the scope. If part of a record is withheld or redacted, ask the custodian to state the legal basis in writing.
